Summary: Clothing and fashion can signal the changing roles and ambitions of women and provide clues about personal identity.
Description: Fashion and Politics: From ball gowns to humble home-made dresses, fashions reveal how women present themselves within the halls of political power. Suffragist fashion: Loose silhouettes and bold lines of 1900s era fashions heralded how changing ideas about the female figure matched women's changing ideas about their voice in domestic, community, business, and political life. Personal Identity: Designer and home-made styles reveal notions of female beauty, female roles, personal style, athletics and feminism. A Day in the Life: Did women really dress like Beaver Cleaver's mom? See "a day in the life" of a mid-20th century Spokane woman. Wall of Influential Women: How have Washington women used their voices and their votes to promote meaningful change? Notable women in Washington life take their places on the Wall of Influential Women, further exploring ideas seen in the exhibit Women's Votes, Women's Voices.
