Physical Description: A) Jacket: Purple patterned silk peplum-style jacket, lined with cream silk, with cream silk cuffs, and inner collar. Jacket has wide lapels, peplum skirt, cording at waist with two cording spirals and tassels at back. Cream inner collar has front hook and loop closure. Jacket has cording spiral frog closure at waist. B) Skirt: Long purple patterned silk skirt with short overskirt of same fabric. Skirt has deep kick pleats at sides and front snap and hook/eye closures.
Description: Matching sets called suits were popular among stylish women between 1880 and 1920. Elizabeth Schimmel Crommelin purchased this purple Maison de Paris day suit as part of her trousseau during her 1914 European honeymoon in The Hague, Netherlands. Her husband Henri managed the Spokane branch of the Holland Bank of Amsterdam.
