Op Art-influenced Dress

Op Art-influenced Dress - Dress
Accession #: 2357.2
Title: Op Art-influenced Dress
Object Type: Dress
Participants:
Mori, Hanae (creator)
Physical Description: Knee length, tent-style dress in chiffon, printed with concentric circles of orange, green, pink, yellow, and blue, over silk printed in the same way. Straight chiffon sleeves with smocking at wrist. The dress has a round neckline, is lined with white silk, has a zipper up the back, and the outer dress is closed by chiffon covered snaps.
Description: A new wave of feminism de-emphasized breasts, hips, and waistlines, and straight dresses became canvases for images and bold designs borrowed from the art world. Op Art is the likely inspiration for this dress by designer Hanae Mori, created for the I. Magnin store and worn by Spokane's Mrs. Cecil Fuller. Mori pioneered new roles for Japanese women when she launched her fashion empire in 1951.
