| Biography/History: | The Davenport family is best known for the grand Spokane hotel that Louis M. Davenport opened in 1914. Louis came to Spokane in 1889 and married Verus Smith of Oregon in 1906, after which the couple moved into a richly-designed apartment over Davenport’s Restaurant. After their only child Lewis was born in 1907, the family moved into an expansive new estate on 8th Avenue. They soon sold the estate to occupy an apartment in the new hotel. |
