| Biography/History: | Elizabeth Mathilde Schimmel was born 30 Oct 1882 to John Schimmel and Johanna Conradina de Bruyn, living at 44 E 74th Street, Manhattan NY. Both of her parents spoke Dutch as their native language. On 28 Jun 1914 at The Hague, Netherlands, Elizabeth married Henri Crommelin (1880-1958) of Spokane WA. Henri was born in Amsterdam on 19 Mar 1880 to Robert Daniel Crommelin and Julia Elisabeth Tutein Nolthenius; he emigrated to America around 1900, and had moved to Spokane by 1904 as cashier and, later, manager, of Spokane’s Holland Bank of Amsterdam. Henri married his first wife, Antoinette Wilder Broadwater, in Helena MT in Nov. 1906, and they built a home at 603 Sumner Avenue in Spokane just before son Jacques Broadwater was born in 1909; Antoinette, known as “Wilder,” appears to have died in 1910. Henri and his second wife Elizabeth lived in the home on Sumner, where they raised Jacques and three daughters, Katherine (“Kay”) born circa 1915, Conradina born circa 1918, and Julie born circa 1923. Henri died at age 78 in Spokane on 18 Apr 1958; Elizabeth died at age 79 in Spokane on 22 Sep 1962. Both are buried in Greenwood Memorial Terrace, Spokane |
