Physical Description: | Painting, acrylic on canvas. Tan-colored canvas scroll with black framed image of a rock with grasses in lower half. Wooden dowels at both ends, the top also has a braided hemp rope attached to the top of the scroll. Background is varying wave shades of tan or peach. Object is mounted on a canvas covered back board and framed in a plex box. |
Description: | "His environment and heritage are major influences in the paintings of Leo Adams, an Eastern Washington artist. Born in Toppenish in 1942, he now resides in Yakima. Adams, a Yakima Indian, attended the Art Center School and Chouinard, both located in Los Angeles, the Sorbonne in Paris and the Burnley School of Art in Seattle. His work has been shown at a number of exhibitions, including the Smithsonian Exhibition of American Indian Artists in 1969. He has received awards from the Bellevue Arts and Crafts Fair, the University of Utah and Seattle University. In Seattle his commissioned paintings can be seen at the Sunset Club, Frederick & Nelson, Bank of Hong Kong in the Dexter Horton Building, and Henry's Off Broadway.
