Egyptian-style Costume

Egyptian-style Costume - Ensemble
Accession #: 4166.1
Title: Egyptian-style Costume
Object Type: Ensemble
Participants:
Physical Description: A costume comprised of greenish yellow pantaloons, a blue silk-lined vest embellished on the outside with metallic-wrapped threads, a pillbox hat embellished with metallic-wrapped threads, two white gauze scarves, a white and red costume accoutrement, and a necklace made of metal filigree and semi-precious stones.
Description: The Campbell family traveled to Egypt in 1903 and probably brought back these costumes as souvenirs. A photograph taken several years later captured Helen Campbell and her cousin Hazel Lease wearing the clothing (and smoking?) in front of the carriage house. Amazingly, the Campbell-Powell family kept the costumes intact until donating them to the Museum in 2007.
