Pillbox-style Egyptian Hat

Pillbox-style Egyptian Hat - Hat, Pillbox
Accession #: 4166.1E
Title: Pillbox-style Egyptian Hat
Object Type: Hat, Pillbox
Participants:
Physical Description: Beige velvet pillbox-style hat with gold metallic-wrapped thread embellishments, gold sequins, and red satin lining; there is a center-top tassel, four colored leaves among gold sequins on crown, and three colored sequin-like decorations on sides with gold sequins.
Description: The Campbell family traveled to Egypt in 1903 and probably brought back these costumes as souvenirs. A photograph taken several years later captured Helen Campbell and her cousin Hazel Lease wearing the clothing (and smoking?) in front of the carriage house. Amazingly, the Campbell-Powell family kept the costumes intact until donating them to the Museum in 2007.
