Biography/History: | Marie Daugherty Webster was a very influential quilt designer of the early 20th century. She wrote the first history of American quilt making, "Quilts: Their Story and How to Make Them", published in 1915. (Hanson and Crews, p. 368). With the help of family and friends, Marie Webster made and distributed patterns and kits for her applique quilts in the 1920s and 1930s through her mail order company in Marion, Indiana (Perry and Frolli, p. 35). |
