Biography/History: Edward Tsutakawa was born in Seattle in 1921. He studied art at many schools throughout his life, including the Art Institute in Chicago, University of Washignton, and Washington State University. He does not feel he can call himself a current practicing artist, although he still paints occasionally or upon request. For many years, he shared a studio waith Herman Keys. Recently, he donated several of the paintings he did in the internement camp to a Japanese-American Museum in Los Angeles. The paintings were more historical in subject and style, since they depiected life in the internment camps. His cousin, George Tsutakawa grew up with Edward and they were like brothers. Edward lived with George's family when he spent time in Japan, and George lived with Edward's family in Seattle.
