Physical Description: Expressionist cityscape of downtown Spokane done in dark colors of blue and green. Water with bridge in foreground and buildings in background.
Description: The painting in the Museum's collection, "Downtown Skyline" was painted when he first moved to Spokane in March, 1944. He submitted it to the Museum's "Pacific Northwest Annual Art Exhibition" in 1948 and won first prize. He chose to use goauche as well as watercolor because it gave the painting greater strength.
