| Biography/History: | Born in Ontario, Canada in1884, Henry Clare Sootheran entered the banking profession upon graduation from the University of Toronto. In 1909, he came to Spokane, Washington on an alien status as a clerk for the Bank of Montreal, which had established a branch on the corner of Riverside Drive and Stevens Street. In 1911, the 26-year-old won first prize in the inaugural Spokane City Tennis Tournament in the Gentleman’s Singles Division. For this, he received a handsome silver trophy. Henry left Spokane after 1912, probably returning to Toronto. |
