| Biography/History: | John Mellinger was born circa 1800 in Pennsylvania, and died in 1888 in Lebanon, Pennsylvania. He was a professional weaver; coverlets woven by him generally include his name and date; his name "& Son," and occasionally his client's name and "Made By". "Emanuel Meily, Jr. and John and Samuel Mellinger received a patent for improvements 'in Loom or Machine for Weaving Coverlids, carpets, Diapers, and other fancy works' on March 1, 1834. They neglected to describe their method of preparing the cards and then applied for a corrected patent 15 months later." |
