Description: | John Mellinger received a patent for "improvements" in the mechanism used to weave figured and fancy coverlets like this one in 1834. For at least the next nineteen years he continued to work as a professional weaver. He was born circa 1800 and died in 1888, apparently living his entire life in Pennsylvania. |
