Physical Description: The design of this figured and fancy woven coverlet includes double roses and snowflakes with diamond dot border. The predominant colors are navy, red, and pink with a cream or beige background. It is inscribed JOHN.MEL.LINGER & SON 1839
Description: John Mellinger received a patent for "improvements" in the mechanism used to weave figured and fancy coverlets like this one in 1834. For at least the next nineteen years he continued to work as a professional weaver. He was born circa 1800 and died in 1888, apparently living his entire life in Pennsylvania.
