Biography/History: | Jessie Alberta Kulp was born March 1869 in Iowa to Albert C. Brockway and Harriette Kinney. In 1899 she married Orlando B. Kulp (b. Illinois, 1863). Children: Valera Harriet Kulp (b 15 August, 1902, Grundy, Iowa), Ruth (b approx 1909), and Harold (b approx 1914). According to 1900 US Census, Jessie and Orlando lived at 825 Maple Street in Spokane, however Grundy, Iowa is listed as daughter Valera's birthplace in 1902. 1910 US Census lists Orlando and Jessie living in Spink, SD. 1915 Iowa Census lists the family in Grundy, Iowa. By 1920 the family is living at East Hartson Avenue in Spokane. By1930 Orlando, Jessie, Ruth and Harold live in Kennewick, WA and Valera lives in Pasco. Jessie Alberta Brockway Kulp died May 26, 1936. Daughter Valera married H Millard Wood in 1928 in Kennewick. By 1940 US Census Valera Wood is listed as "head of household." Sister Ruth Anderson is listed in the household, as are the children of both sisters. Valera married Walter W Puderbaugh in in Benton County in 1941. She and Ruth both donated belongings associated with their mother Jessie to the Fort George Wright Historical Museum. |
