Biography/History: Harriet A. Lombard (born Dec.25, 1853 in Michigan) married James M. Lackey in Nov.1877 in California. That same year they moved to Spokane County, Washington Territory; James was killed in an accident in 1878 just before their daughter Maude Eva was born on Jan. 9, 1879. On Dec. 4, 1886, Harriet married carpenter Arthur R. King, in Spokane Falls; they moved to Fruitland, WA in 1887. Harriet's daughter Maude married Charles King, a younger brother of Arthur's, and their daughter Pearl was born March 9, 1903 in Bossburg, WA. Charles, a Spokane carpenter, died of a heart attack in 1904; Maude died of pneumonia in 1906. Harriet raised step children and two grandchildren, including Pearl (married Clinton) and her brother Arthur Ray. Harriet and Arthur returned to Spokane in August 1917 because Harriet had been stricken with a rare form of blindness caused by the inablility to open the eyelids. Pearl was Harriet's mainstay from the age of ten on. Harriet died February 14, 1943 in Spokane and was buried in Colville, WA.
