Biography/History: Ethel Mae Johnson was born in 1908 in Spokane to John and Edna Johnson. The Johnsons were grain farmers in Marshall, an unincorporated area between Cheney and Spokane. Edna attended Lewis and Clark High School and entered the teaching profession and was teacher at Sunset School in 1931. In 1942, Ethel married Alfred (Al) J. Beckwith. Al had been born in Colorado, but had moved to Spokane with his parents Alfred, Sr. and Mary Beckwith. Al Beckwith died on 6 July 1998. Ethel Beckwith spent her entire teaching career in the Cheney School District. She died December 4, 1994.
