Physical Description: A black square-necked short sleeve jumper with black/white fabric trim at upper bodice and sleeve cuffs, with legs gathered at the bottom and bodice gathered at waist in front. Dress has front closure with hooks, eyes and buttons. A black pleated skirt with band of black/white fabric trim along hem, single button closure at waist with additional buttonholes at sides, front, and back is worn over jumper. Includes black cotton stockings, shaped at foot and 2 pair of black canvas shoes: black slippers with tan trim, fabric strap with leather button, and rubberized canvas covered leather sole and black canvas shoes with black laces and with tan trim on the tongue, white canvas lining and leather insole and rubber soles.
Description: Around 1918, Elizabeth Crommelin and her young family enjoyed swimming at Liberty Lake, a recreation spot whose popularity boomed when an electric railroad connected it to nearby Spokane in 1903. Elizabeth's husband Henri came from the Netherlands as employee of one of many Dutch banks that invested in the Inland Northwest economy.
