| Biography/History: | Freeman Butts was born in Los Angeles California in 1928. He joined the Military from 1945-1949 and then went on to receive his education at the Hollywood Art Center School from 1947-1949. He is a painter and was part of the emerging West Coast art scene in the fifties and sixties. After several successful one-person exhibitions in the sixties, he decided to leave southern California and he moved to Bozeman, Montana. He wanted to do his work free of the pressures of commercialism and ordained styles. |
