Biography/History: Margaret Bean was born in Spokane on 15 Nov 1888 to Walker L Bean and Kate Hussey Bean, a Spokane pioneer family, living at 125 7th Avenue. She attended local schools, then left for Northampton, Massachusetts to attend Miss Capen’s School (graduated 1909) and Smith College (graduated 1913). She returned to Spokane social life until, at age 30, departing on 1 Mar 1919 from Hoboken NJ on US Army Transport ship “Manchuria”, to serve in France with the Smith College Relief Unit in World War I. Returning again to Spokane, she worked as a newspaper reporter and feature writer for The Spokesman-Review, a magazine contributor, and a motion picture editor. She did not marry, and died in Spokane on 10 Nov 1986, age 97.
