Physical Description: One-piece evening gown of pink chiffon over pink satin has top portions of front and back covered with netting, elaborate beading, and beaded fringe. The dress has cap sleeves, a rounded front neckline, and a wide v-shaped front panel beaded in an overall diaper pattern. Long loops of beads form a fringe along the outer edges of the bodice beaded panel and at the hemline of the chiffon skirt overlay, hanging well above the dress hemline. The back neckline is v-shaped. A cluster of four beaded rings threaded with pink satin ribbon decorates the front of a pink satin cummerbund that surrounds a high waistline; a train, edged with 1 1/2" brown ermine, hangs below this sash at the bodice back. The dress is secured with hook and eye closers that run the length of the back of the dress and near the top of the train.
Description: Descendent of a pioneer Spokane family, Margaret Bean attended Miss Capen's School and Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts, served with her college's relief unit in France during World War I, then returned to Spokane to continue her career as a newspaper reporter and feature writer, as well as a motion picture editor and magazine contributor. She attended numerous Spokane society events, and likely had this dress custom-made for a special evening occasion, such as the wedding of her friend Helen Campbell.
