First Name: Alfredo

*1935 (Date of Birth)
Biography/History: Alfredo Arreguin was born in Morelia, Michoacan in 1935. His parents divorced while he was a toddler and he was sent to live with his grandparents who both died when he was 13. He found work as a tour guide through which he had a chance encounter with an American family who invited him to visit them in Seattle. They took him to see the University of Washington, arranged to find him a job, and gave him a place to stay. He went on to earn his M.F.A in painting from the University of Washington. While he was in graduate school he stared filling in the spaces around his figures with decorative patterns. Today, every inch of his canvas is ladened with luxurious interlocking designs and unique decorative calligraphy. His ideas evolved out of memories of his childhood growing up in Morelia, Mexico and working as a young man in the jungles and rain forests. Furthermore, in gratitude to the family who helped him, many of his works celebrate those who have devoted their lives to helping, be it their fellow man or the world they live in.
