Physical Description: Oil on canvas over stretcher frame, no strainers. Under drawing of grid is obvious through thin paint layers. A patterned, colorful field is bordered by a burgundy red border on all edges. Field is a grid and each square is patterned lending a geometric feeling countered by the organic forms within the blocks of the grid. The patterns in the blocks alternate between intersecting almond shapes and an anthropomorphic image that looks like the face of a pre-Columbian icon or god. Glossy and matte areas are also alternated across the canvas. A pattern of painted vines is superimposed over the small grid in a larger grid pattern. A portrait of Frida Kahlo emerges from the patterned field while an image of a monkey and bird, organic opaque forms, are painted on top of the grid.
