Physical Description: | This is an appliqué quilt made from Marie Webster's "Wreath of Roses" pattern. Pink roses and green stems and leaves, all of cotton sateen, are appliqued onto a crème background. "Susan Hussey 1922" is embroidered in a corner. It is densely quilted. The edge is scalloped and the binding is made from pink cotton sateen. |
Description: | Marie Webster, an influential quilt designer of the early twentieth century, first published this "Wreath of Roses" appliqué quilt in 1915. In 1922, Spokane resident Susan Hussey used the Webster pattern to create this quilt, possibly from a kit. Family history states that it was quilted by a group of Amish women in Pennsylvania. |
