Description: Marion Blanc saved this booklet from her recuperation at Harmon General Hospital in Texas. Trained at St. Luke's School of Nursing, Marion was called up as an Army Nurse in 1941. She left for New Guinea with the 47th General Hospital on a converted ocean liner called the Monticello, and served several years until malaria or dengue fever sent her to the Texas military hospital. Later, she served 20 years as Ferry County Public Health Nurse and was the first female charter member of a VFW post in the country. World War II left a lasting legacy in the Inland Northwest, with its strong history of military service.
