Physical Description: A courtesan and a kamuro sit in a room with a view through a large grilled window to a body of water with boats. The kamuro is at the left and kneels behind the courtesan. She wears what was probably a blue kimono patterned at the hem with a daisy-like flower in gauffrage and underrobes of faded orange tie dye, white and solid orangish. Her obi has stripes of what may have been yellow, blue, orange and white. She kneels on one knee and holds out a folded letter towards the courtesan. Her robe has plum blossoms surrounded by gauffrage in the lower part and white yiuwatas (cloth or skeins tied in sheaves) around the shoulders. Her underrobes are tie dyed, with blue, white and orange. Her obi is a faded indeterminate color with shading on a border of another color. She holds a long pipe with curling smoke and kneels before a smoker's stand. Both wear tortoise shell combs. A folding screen to the left is patterned with circles and branches of bamboo on one side and a geometric motif on the other. The wall behind the screen bears a pattern of daisy-like flowers, which together with three groups of leaves, form a rough triangle. A length of cloth with a pattern of crisscrossed poles hangs over the screen. The right edge which may have contained the publisher's seal has been trimmed. This may have been part of a diptych or triptych.
