Physical Description: Carved oak chair, marked "This chair was made from old carved pew taken from the church in which Shakespeare is buried in Stratford on Avon." All carved on the reverse of chair back.
Description: This chair is made from a Trinity Church pew end in the 1890s. A Stratford-On-Avon cabinet maker, Mr. Henry Holland Bullard, purchased the pew ends to make chairs and settees during a remodeling of the church, he sold the majority to a Miss F. H. Stearns of Boston, who then sold them to Tiffany Studios. This chair was donated to the Museum after being purchased from Kirtland Kelsey Cutter's Estate. An inventory of Kirtland Cutter's home, Chalet Hohenstein in 1915 mentions two of these chairs and they can be seen in images of the dining room at the table.
