Physical Description: Two-sided, oil on canvas, painted banner depicting Spokane Falls. On one side, the Spokane Falls are depicted and there is black lettering across the top that reads: "Spokane Falls / May 11th 1873". The back is tan canvas with black lettering that reads: "Spokane Pioneer Society / Organized April 16th 1896". The banner is edged on the top and bottom with wood dowels and has two decorative ropes which hang from both bottom corners.
Description: When the Spokane Pioneer Society organized in 1896, members commissioned a banner. On one side, artist Alice Holliston depicted James Glover's first view of the falls twenty-three years earlier. Considered Spokane's founder, Glover came from the Willamette Valley, purchased homestead claims at the falls, platted the town, and was elected mayor - all before the Spokane Pioneer Society formed.
