Scene du Jardin - Painting
Accession #: 2397.16
Title: Scene du Jardin

Physical Description: Oil on Canvas painting of a woman and a young girl sitting at a tea table in a garden.
Description: The Impressionists' revolutionary spark propelled artists into the modern age. A short-lived French art movement called Fauvism began around 1900. In contrast to the Impressionists who focused on painting exactly what their eyes saw true color and contrast between light and dark-Fauvists emphasized painting style and strong, sometimes unrealistic, color. Henri Manguin, a Fauvist, painted in light pastel colors because he was influenced by Impressionism. Compare this painting to Summer on Lake Washington by the American Impressionist John Butler.
