Description: | The 1859 Comstock Lode discovery provided a large silver supply, and silver flatware became a dining essential. New serving pieces were introduced during the 1880s and 1890s, before the number of pieces in any one pattern began to decline. Grace Campbell (or perhaps her daughter, Helen Campbell Powell) acquired a few 18th century silver serving pieces, to complement flatware sets acquired after 1890. Silversmiths William Sumner and Richard Crossley created these serving spoons in London between 1775 and 1782. |
