| Physical Description: | This is an applique made from Marie Webster's "Sunflower" pattern. Fabrics are cotton. Yellow flowers with brown centers and green stems and leaves are hand appliqued onto a cream background. It is hand quilted in a "Hanging Diamonds" pattern. The binding is beige and is badly frayed. |
| Description: | Marie Webster, an influential quilt designer of the early twentieth century, created this "Sunflower" appliqué quilt pattern, first published in the January 1912 issue of "Ladies' Home Journal." Spokane's Kate McCrea chose Webster's design, possibly in kit form, to create this quilt. The sunflower was a favorite motif of the Arts and Crafts movement. |
