Description: Like automobile makers, clothing manufacturers identified a new market, young American men. The collegiate look was in, and Esquire magazine stated, "Men grew up but not old." Roadsters paired naturally with the dashing "country club man" wearing knickers with a tweed or linen sport jacket for golf or cross-country touring. Sporty dress even appealed to men who had never driven a car or hit a golf ball. This trend continued into the 1930s as the casual lines of daywear translated into dashing movie star elegance for evenings.
