Physical Description: Dark brown horsehide, long-sleeved, leather jacket with gold/brass colored zippers and pearlized green/orange satin lining. There are two angled side pockets and a zippered breast pocket on the proper left breast; the side pockets are lined with cotton linen. There is a white and brown fabric label at the back of the neck that says: "Sportclad - Genuine horsehair".
Description: Teenagers wore the jeans and black leather jackets popularized on movie screens worldwide by James Dean and Marlon Brando. Vern Vandevanter courted his Lewis & Clark High School sweetheart and future wife Barbara wearing this cool leather flight jacket. In 1999, a curator found a love note he had written to her still tucked in the jacket's pocket.
