Physical Description: This blue and white doublecloth coverlet was woven in two 33.5" wide sections and seamed. It is fringed at the bottom; A Velcro strip is sewn at what must have been determined to be top edge. The Seam stitching is loose, and poorly done, but the sections are fairly neatly matched. There is a "J" embroidered into one corner of the coverlet.
Description: James William Ellis (1834-1911) was born in Virginia. Possibly, he brought this blue and white doublecloth coverlet with him when he journeyed to Walla Walla by wagon train in 1860. It was probably woven by a professional weaver in Virginia. There is an embroidered "J" in one of its corners.
