Physical Description: | Home made airplane propeller made from 5 strips of wood fastened together. Both ends are wrapped in cloth, there is a 2 inch hole in the center of the propeller surrounded by 5 smaller holes. |
Description: | Reuben Bowers (1877-1912) was raised on a farm near Harrington, Washington. As an adult, he became a blacksmith and settled with his family on a wheat farm in Mohler, Washington. He developed an interest in aviation, and is credited with being the first to build and fly a plane in the Inland Northwest. He flew exhibition and test flights around the region until his death in 1912, following surgery. Later, his plane was shipped to California, except for one of the propellers, which was donated to the Museum. |
