Physical Description: A pair of opera glasses and velvet pouch. The handle & optics cylinder are made of mother-of-pearl, 9 sections to the handle,12 sections to each optic cylinder. The fittings are brass; the handle has 4 rows of design at the top and a single row halfway down separating the 2 rows of mother-of-pearl. Made by Lemaire F of Paris.
Description: Helen Campbell purchased these opera glasses at Spokane's Dodson's Jewelers, carrying them on frequent trips to the theater. All over the region, communities created organizations to serve their need for arts and culture. The railroad brought both vaudeville acts and "legitimate" road companies on tours booked by theater syndicates across the nation. Local and traveling performers served enthusiastic audiences in buildings that ranged from Spokane's large 1890 Auditorium Theater, to small town opera houses.
