Helen Campbell's Opera Glasses

Helen Campbell's Opera Glasses - Glass, Opera
Accession #: 3841.1A
Title: Helen Campbell's Opera Glasses
Object Type: Glass, Opera
Participants:
Physical Description: A pair of opera glasses, made by LeMaire F of Paris. The handle and optic cylinder have inlaid mother or pearl, the fittings are brass, and the name "Helen" is inscribed on the nose piece.
Description: Helen Campbell purchased these opera glasses at Spokane's Dodson's Jewelers, carrying them on frequent trips to the theater. All over the region, communities created organizations to serve their need for arts and culture. The railroad brought both vaudeville acts and "legitimate" road companies on tours booked by theater syndicates across the nation. Local and traveling performers served enthusiastic audiences in buildings that ranged from Spokane's large 1890 Auditorium Theater, to opera houses in many smaller towns.
