| Physical Description: | This quilt is constructed from special "day" ticket ribbons from Seattle's 1909 Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition. The edges of the ribbons are covered with hand-embroidered feather stitch. The piece has hanging loops on the upper edge. It was constructed to function as a decorative and commemorative wall hanging rather than as bedding. |
| Description: | Built on the future site of Seattle's University of Washington, the 1909 Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition celebrated the West. The museum has no clue as to how Caroline MacKinnon collected so many of the Exposition's daily ribbons (and possibly its entry tickets), but she created this colorful banner documenting many of the fair's events and participants. |
