Biography/History: Greenwood Cemetery monument: LUXENBURGER Michael Rosanna 1854-1909 1855-1926 Michael Luxenburger [also spelled Luxemburger]: 1870 Federal Census: Fort Wayne, Ward 6, Allen Co., Indiana: Michael, son of Phillip (b.c.1818 Prussia) and Margarett (b.c.1826 Hesse-Darmstadt), b. c.1854 in Indiana, age 16, working as a cigar maker. Married c. 1881, lived in California before arriving in Spokane. Spokane City Directories: 1889 Michael is a clerk @ Rosenfeld, Smith Co @ W. 13 Riverside. He [and family?] rooms @ 29 Post. Mrs. Rosanna provides his furnished room; looks like she ran a boarding house. 1890 Michael is a clerk at A.W. Siegel @ 707 Riverside. Still living on Post 1892 [Family?] moves to S. 220 Jefferson 1894 [Family?] now lives at 1212 Sprague 1896 Michael is a salesman @ AW Siegel. Resides at 1212 Third. Spokane census for 1900, Spokane Township, Cannon Precinct, June 6: Luxenburger, Michael, head of household, was married, born August 1855 and married 19 years. Born in Indiana to parents from Germany. He is a clerk and owns his home on Third avenue. Rosali, his wife was born in October 1855, has two living children, she born in Illinois, her parents from Ohio and Pennsylvania. Mable, daughter, born in July 1881 in California and is at school. Alma, daughter, born in Feb 1883 in California and was at school. Spokane City Directories: 1903 Mabel is boarding with parents and working as clerk @ Empire Tea & Crockery 1908 shows Michael clerking @ G.L. Taft Spokesman Review [obit or death notice], Thursday, March 4, 1909: "Luxenberger--At 1212 Third avenue, March 2, Michael Luxenberger, 54 years: of cancer of the liver." Spokane City Directories: 1910 Rosanna the widow of Michael and her daughters living at home. 1915 Alma has married 1922 Mabel still at home; working at the Crescent. Alma and Ralph have also moved in at 1212 W.3rd Spokesman Review, March 19, 1926 small obit for Rosanna, 70 years old, home at W 1312 Third Ave. Survived by daughters, Miss Mable at home and Mrs. RJ. Bennett of Spokane (the donor) By 1964 all have disappeared from the City Directory; Mable, Alma and Ralph all moved to Rockwood Manor. Mabel died April 20, 1975. Survived by sister. Alma Bennett died June 17, 1976, survived by one niece in Warrenville, IL.
