| Biography/History: | Margaretta Bricker was born in Somerset PA, graduated with a Physical Education degree, and directed the physical education program for Lock Haven, PA, schools before her 1923 marriage to Macdonald (“Donald”) Hopkins (1900-1984). They were living in Lock Haven in 1930, with his occupation listed as lumber operator. In 1937, the couple and their daughter Elizabeth moved to Spokane, WA, where Donald made a living in investment securities and as mining broker. Margaretta was active in civic affairs and well-known for her hunting, exploration and photography expeditions to Africa, western Canada and Alaska. Donald served as vice president of the Eastern Washington State Historical Society, and Margaretta served on its Campbell House Committee. |
