Physical Description: Crazy quilt with light pink sateen backing. Top in various types and colors of silk. Two blue velvet strips, approximately 4 inches wide, at opposing ends. Feather and various fancy stitching over block edges. Fancy embroidery in many of the blocks, including: dog, several chenille floral decorations, yellow and orange butterfly with raised body, pansies and lilies of the valley, abstract decoration, fish ,star in metallic thread, three appliqued blue leaves, naval figure, bellows, woman with a parasol, penknife, boots, boy with a flute, heavily embroidered sheep in white, horses, bird, alphabet and silver moon.
Description: With its blue velvet border and array of embroidered motifs, this piece was obviously made for show, as was typical of crazy quilts made during the last quarter of the nineteenth century. Quilt maker Ella Mackey of Highlands, N.Y. embroidered the date "1886" near the center.
