Biography/History: | Jaune Quick-to-See Smith was born on the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Reservation in Montana, and now lives in New Mexcio. She earned her master's degree in art from the University of New Mexcio and her bachelor's in art education from Framingham State College in Massachusetts. She is a well known artist and lecturer, and has exhibited across the United States and in Europe since 1978. In 1992, she curated the "Submuloc Show/Columbus Wohs," a nationally touring exhibit of work by Native American artists produced in response to the quincentennial of the landing of Christopher Columbus in the Caribbean. One critic has written that Quick-to-See Smith's paintings, like the ancient petroglyphs she studies and employs in her work, are a way of talking with people. |
