Biography/History: John Segesman, like hundreds of Spokane area residents, attended classes at the Spokane Art Center. A lithograph donated to the Northwest Museum of Arts & Culture by Robert O. Engard confirms that Segesman studied lithography at the Center. Specializing in wildlife painting, Segesman was born in 1899 in Spokane, Washington. He attended Spokane, Washington North Central High School; studied art at the University of Washington; the Academy of Arts in Chicago; and the Cornish Art School in Seattle, Washington. He served in Navy in World War I. Early on, he worked at the Jacksonville Journal (Florida) as an illustrator. He married his wife, who was a vaudevillian who toured with Al Jolson, in Jacksonville. They moved to Seattle, Washington, and then moved to Spokane, Wa. where he helped form the Spokane, Washington Art Board and was president for two years
