Biography/History: | Kay O’Rourke was born in 1943 and currently lives and works in Spokane, WA. She was raised with art in her life, her mother painted, ran an art gallery, and taught art in the family home; her sister, Gina Freuen, is also an artist. She attended the University of Washington and Gonzaga University. She has taught at Eastern Washington University, Spokane Falls Community College, and the Spokane Art School. She is most well known for her paintings but she also often creates sculpture from found objects in her yard. Kay O'Rourke's paintings are Surrealist-like but, more accurately, can be described as non-traditional realism. Metaphysics is integral to her work. O'Rourke's paintings are filled with personal, literary, mythological, and art historical references. |
