Biography/History: Conan E. Mathews was born in Providence, Utah on Septebmer 16,1905. He was a student at Utah State Agricultural College, Bethany College of Fine Arts in Lindsborg Kansas, California School of Fine Arts, and the University of California. His awards include a teaching fellowship in1932-1933 from the California School of Fine Arts, an Award of Merit from the California School of Fine Arts, and 1st prize from the Idaho Art Association. His one-man exhibits include the Boise Art Gallery (1937, 1938), USAC, Logan in 1939, and the Art Barn in Salt Lake City in 1939. He was the author of articles in Design Magazine in November 1938, the Idaho Daily Statesman, and the Idaho Education Journal. He was a teacher of art and head of the art departmen at Boise Junior College.
