| Biography/History: | Mary Jane (may have gone by "Jane") Wirt was born 12 Oct 1851 in Keithsburg, IL to Martin and Esther Groves Wirt. Donor notes suggest that she went to California as a young woman and, later, homesteaded with her husband, John Frederick Freter, on Moran Prairie. Marriage date of 1878 undocumented. Their son Frank Baker Freter (b. 21 Oct 1883; d. 1976) and his wife Bessie Maude Hilby (1886-1954) were also farmers. Mary Jane died 20 Dec. 1908. |
