Biography/History: Edward T. Grigware was born in Michigan, but his family moved to Spokane when he was ten years old. He attended Lewis and Clark High School where he befriended Carey Orr, a noted cartoonist on the Chicago Tribune. In 1911, Orr and Grigware left Spokane and entered the Academy of Fine arts at Chicago. By the end of the first year, he was awarded the number one scholarship. After leaving the Academy, he enjoyed a successful art career for some twenty-five years in Chicago. In 1935, he was appointed Naval Painter for the U.S. Navy. However, he always wanted to go back west. In 1937, he and his wife moved to Cody, Wyoming. From essay titled "Of me.......A Thumbnail Sketch" by Edward T. Grigware.
