Biography/History: Florence Enid Stoddard was born in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia in 1882 to Frederick W. and the noted portrait artist Mary Devine Stoddard. Her maternal grandfather was the Scottish miniaturist Peter Devine. F. Enid Stoddard was known for her miniature portraits, although she painted portraits in all sizes in England, the U. S., and Canada. She was an associate of the Royal Miniature Society and her work was accepted for exhibition in the Royal Academy when she was seventeen. Her works have been shown in many important exhibitions in England, the U. S., and Canada and she seems to have made many trips to the U.S. during her lifetime. Recently, several of Stoddard’s works were included in the exhibition entitled Celebrity Chefs of the 1930s that hung in the National Portrait Gallery in England in 2013. F. Enid Stoddard never married and she passed away on 22 May 1962 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
