| Biography/History: | Doug Safranek (b. 1956) brings a new perspective to the old tradition of urban painting, using the meticulous medium of egg tempera to impose a sense of order and calm on the din and disarray of contemporary cities. The Spokane-born artist currently resides in the New York area. After completing a degree in French from Boston College, Safranek returned home to Spokane, Washington, to study art for two years at Gonzaga University, and then continued his art education at the University of Wisconsin earning a master of fine arts in 1984. His paintings are in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of the City of New York, and the Frye Art Museum. |
