Biography/History: | Lang Armstrong moved from his Edmonton, Alberta birthplace to Spokane in 1922. He became part of the art department at the Spokane Daily Chronicle in 1927. He started cartooning in the mid-1930s, and was named staff artist for the Spokane Daily Chronicle in 1935. Several of his cartoons were reprinted in national magazines and newspapers. In addition to cartooning, he was a serious studio artist. He studied lithography at the Works Progress Administration's Spokane Art Center under Robert Engard. In 1943, his entry in the National Safety Council holiday season contest for professional artists won first place. He also won awards with his watercolor paintings. |
